Why we continue to fundraise

1 in 9 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer

People ask us why we fundraise and why we keep challenging ourselves by participating in so many events. The answer is simple. Because we can!

And, because of the people in our lives who have been affected by breast cancer and other women's cancers. Joseph's mom in 2005, Allyson in 2006, Margarida in 2007, Mary Jayne, Margaret and numerous other friends and family over the years. Some who are survivors and others who have passed away.

And because, 1 in 9 women in Canada will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Cancer doesn't stop, so why should we?

In the past year or so, Joseph has lost two friends to cancer: one to stomach cancer, the other to colorectal cancer, the second leading cause of death by cancer. Earlier this year, Karen learnt of another friend who is also battling the disease. And now an amazing man, Chad Cieslik, who has done so much for the fight against breast cancer, is battling lung cancer. Cancer does not stop, so why should we?

Our greatest challenge

Most people think of the walks and rides as being a challenge. Although it always feels such an accomplishment to reach the finish line, the greatest challenge is not participating in the Walks or the Rides.

The greatest challenge, and most important of all, is to raise as much awareness and funds as we can for Breast Cancer (and other women's cancers) and Colorectal Cancer research, care and education.

So, we set two goals: to raise of $100,000 for breast cancer research and $50,000 for colorectal cancer research, a total of $150,000. With your help and support we know we can achieve these goals.
