About The Weekend
60 km over 2 days
During one incredible weekend thousands of women and men unite to walk 60 kilometres in a valiant display of courage and commitment. It’s a weekend of hope, as walkers honour lives lost, celebrate survivors, and help bring breast cancer care to those who so desperately need it.
Now in its seventh year The Weekend to END BREAST CANCER was first hosted in Toronto with proceeds benefiting Princess Margaret Hospital, a leader in the fight against breast cancer. By the end of the 2007 event, the Toronto Weekend to End Breast Cancer had raised $60 million, breaking the national fundraising record. To date, the Toronto event has raised $73 million.
Since its inception, seven more cities across Canada – Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Montreal and Halifax – followed Toronto’s lead to host this amazing event, with proceeds benefiting leading breast cancer research institutes in the host provinces. The money raised has been and continues to be used for much needed breast cancer research, care and education.
Why is the Weekend so important?
One in nine Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Maybe someone in your life has been affected - two someones in our life have been affected - this is why we walk. With the help of funds raised from the Weekend to End Breast Cancer, there is now an 80% five year survival rate for breast cancer victims. The Weekend to END BREAST CANCER has made a difference to so many lives, and it is our chance to make a difference too; it’s our chance to leave a mark in the fight against breast cancer.
In 2009, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver are continuing the fight against breast cancer by each hosting another Weekend to END BREAST CANCER. Why not register for the one in your Province?
