Butterfly of Hope
As of today (February 7th), I have decided to participate in the Montreal Weekend. So, now I will be walking in Toronto and Montreal as a BUTTERFLY OF HOPE, six teams of 35 walkers honouring Chad Cieslik, 35-time walker in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer.
Since its inception in 2003, Chad has walked in every event. On his 2,100 km journey, he has raised $210,000 for breast cancer research, made countless new friends, lost several special ones along the way and has been a great inspiration to me as well as thousands of others.
In January 2009, Chad was diagnosed with stage 2 lung cancer and now he must fight his own battle with this awful disease! Throughout 2009, despite needing to undergo treatment for his cancer, Chad continued to walk in six events as well as participate in 3 Ride to Conquer Cancer events. But now it is time to put away his shoes and look after number one for awhile.
Chad has challenged the Butterfly of Hope to raise $420,000 in his honour... that's a minimum of $2,000 per participant. Please help me help Chad achieve his goal by donating to my 2010 walks.
Go directly to my Toronto page or my Montreal Page where you can donate online or print out a donation form to mail off with your donation cheque. Or check out our fundraising page for a list of tag day dates and locations, where you can make a cash donation.
The Weekend to End Breast Cancer
has changed its name
In 2009, The Weekend to End Breast Cancer changed its name to The Weekend to End Women's Cancers. The event and the research centres it supports want to recognize the link between breast cancer and all gynaecological cancers as well as extend the money raised to fund research into ALL WOMEN'S CANCERS, including breast, ovarian, cervical and other gynaecological cancers.
With thousands of participants in six cities across Canada, The Weekend to End Breast Cancer has raised millions of dollars for breast cancer research, care and education at leading cancer research centres throughout Canada. It has also created a huge amount of awareness about this awful disease.
Now, The Weekend to End Women's Cancers aims to create awareness for ALL women's cancers and raise much needed funds to find a cure, not only for breast cancer, but ALL cancers. For more information about the events or to register as a participant, visit www.endcancer.ca.
10th in 2010
To date I have walked 540 km in the journey to END BREAST CANCER as part of the Walking for the Breast Reason team, and Joseph, the other half of the team, has walked 900 km (15 events). Together we have raised approximately $61,500 for breast cancer research, care and awareness.
In 2010, this will be my 10th walk, but now my walk will help raise awareness and funds for ALL WOMEN'S CANCERS. Joseph and I still have a goal to raise $100,000 for breast cancer research, but now some of that money will be used for research into the links between breast cancer and other gynaecological cancers.
As a member of the Butterfly of Hope team, I need to raise a minimum of $2,000 to help achieve Chad's goal of $420,000 for the 2010 walk. But I would like to raise much, much more. Please help me achieve the Walking for the Breast Reason goal of $100,000 with the ultimate goal of finding a cure for breast cancer and ALL cancers by making a donation today.
Cycling For A Cure for Colorectal Cancer
in the Ride to Conquer Cancer
In 2009, Joseph and I, also participated in the Ride to Conquer Cancer, raising funds for colorectal cancer and cycling 200 km in honour of Joseph's friend, Dave (Digger) Chute, who passed away on April 15, 2009 after a 3-year-long battle with colon cancer.
We are on a mission to kick colorectal cancer in the butt. In 2010, Joseph and I had hoped to ride in as many events as possible with a goal to raise a minimum of $15,000 for colorectal cancer research. Due to a back injury earlier this year, Joseph has had to pull out of all but the Quebec Ride. However, he has now registered for the Toronto Weekend instead, and in 2011, we both hope to ride in the Kentucky Ride.

1 in 9 women will be diagnosed with
breast cancer in their lifetime
You will know at least one person affected by breast cancer. You may already know someone diagnosed with breast cancer. Or you may be fighting breast cancer yourself.
Help us to reduce this statistic and cure all women's cancers by making a donation to The Weekend to End Women's Cancers. Visit us at one of our fundraising "tag days", donate online or send a cheque made payable to one of the walks we're participating in.
